I'm looking for a simple gold bangle that can be worn everyday and that looks good with any outfit. It must be gold (not gold vermeil or plated) and fairly close fitting (I've got slim wrists so don't want it falling off) or a style that comes in different sizes rather than a one size fits all.

I tried on the new slim Cartier Love bracelet and loved it but am worried about the faff with the screws (as I don't like to sleep/shower/exercise with jewellery on) so am open to other suggestions! Something classic that will hold its value and that can be passed down to my DD when she's older. Budget is around £3K (please no 'how much' comments - I've saved for it and it will be a considered purchase around xmas time)

I've also tried on the Georg Jensen 'Torun' bangle and like the look of the Annoushka Buckle one.

Any advice or experiences of owning any of these please?

Well if you're gonna get one of those get the Cartier. The others don't look as expensive as they are, tbh.

But I would 100% get a Love Cuff instead. All the look of the bangle, but actually able to take it off and on whenever you want.

MooMinCow · 25/08/2017 20:20

This one Elspeth? I didn't know they did it in a cuff style - have never seen one in store! Will have to try it on next time to compare Gold Bangle - Cartier Love Bracelet or alternatives? | Mumsnet (5)

I'm very lucky and have a couple of love bracelets. I never take them off so if you wanted a removable one then the cuff is definitely a good idea. I don't think they do the cuff in slim yet though?
How about some Chopard? I have one of these (photo) and I have never received so many compliments! I think they are under 2500,l

Flicker - that's very pretty. Looks like I'm going to need a whole day on Bond Street! What's the wear and tear like on your bracelets if you never remove them? Do they need to be repolished or screws replaced?

Just looking at the Juste en Clou range too - sadly above my budget though!

The cartier one or the cuff. The gj one doesn't look quite robust enough for everyday.

I've really zoomed in on my bangles so you can see... yes they have scratches but I've had the rose gold one 5 years, white gold 2 years and they look good considering I don't take them off. They are super comfortable and don't bother me when sleeping/showering/swimming etc. Never have needed to have the screws replaced. I got the rose gold polished around 2 years ago, it got rid of all the small scratches and Cartier do this for free. I also got a lovely jewellery cleaning kit with it (had a little "gold toothbrush", cleaning gel and cloth- I'm easily impressed)
I love them and I'd love another one, those slim ones have caught my eye!

If you're looking at Christmas is it worth hanging on for the January sales?

Nothing to add about types/brands sorry

Another option would be the Tiffany T? Not sure on the price range for these but I think they're nice (and would look good in my collection DH if you're reading) haha

Be aware of some with a very high gold content as gold can be quite soft.

DH bought me some 24c ( I think) bangles from India a few years ago and I rarely wear them as they misshape easily against tables , surfaces etc.

Went on Purse Forum - wow there are a lot of Cartier obsessives with information about any jewellery query possible Gold Bangle - Cartier Love Bracelet or alternatives? | Mumsnet (13)

They look in great condition Flicker, maybe I could get used to it being on my wrist permanently? I've tried those Tiffany T bangles too, but sadly they felt very flimsy in comparison to the Love bracelet (and Tiffany is normally my jeweller of choice)

Ann - I don't think they ever go into sales, although DH does fly frequently and could be persuaded to buy it at Heathrow!

Eve - being of Asian decent I have a few pieces of 'Indian' gold. They're normally 22carat so yes very soft but too 'yellow' for my liking. Much prefer the softer tone of 9/18ct!

Moo I'm white and DH who is Bengali has bought me 22ct pieces over the years. Its funny because I much prefer the strong yellow, I really dislike 9/18ct because I find it wishywashy! I find my younger female inlaws the same as you, none like the strong yellow 22ct, they go for white gold. Its only me and the older ladies who wear 22ct.

Anyway, sorry to derail! I think the cuff would be good because I'm guessing it wouldn't move about too much on the wrist and it is easily removable.

Morning Whiterabbit - I think it's because the strong yellow really contrasts against darker skin and given the choice I would rather wear some antique style Asian costume jewellery with a sari etc than the 'real' thing. It's a shame as I do have some beautiful bangles my late father bought for my wedding - I wouldn't wear them daily but would never part with them either purely because of their sentimental value (I clearly remember him taking me shopping for them, he was So happy and excited)

Anyway my only concern with the cuff is that it's thicker than the bracelet and may look too 'butch' on me. I like the contrast of the tough looking screws against the delicate oval bangle if that makes sense?

I would do the Cartier bangle- I think if you get a small one you'll get used to it and never take it off- otherwise will be annoying. But I would worry that the cuff would catch on something and fall off/ pop open. Wonder if anyone with one would comment?

Our relative with an Indian Dh has her wedding jewellery in the bank. I think she's scared to lose it if she wears it.

Buy the Cartier. Dh has a dremel multi & you can polish metal with it. He used it on his carerra watch before selling it.

You won't need to worry about losing it if it screws on & you can always sell Cartier on if you get bored of it.

Watching with interest - I happened to 'find' myself walking into Cartier on Bond Street and trying on the Love bracelets. I think they are absolute classics that no other bracelets can match. Ended up not buying one as like you, I was put off by the fact they were permanently on - I take my diamond ring off to swim and put sun cream on and didn't like the fact that I needed to get a screw to take it off. The sales assistant also made some comment about not needing to take it off for airport security which bizarrely freaked me out about the fact that really once it was on, it was on. I tried on the cuff, but decided against it as it didnt really feel like a bracelet and I was worried about it falling off and losing it at that price. So that's why I walked out without buying anything!

I will say about cuffs - I don't have a Love Cuff obviously (weeps) but I do have a generic silver one that I've worn for 15 years. Am in a job that forbids bracelets so its easy on/easy off only.

Cuffs really really don't fall off. Well maybe hinged ones are wobblier, but solid ones don't. Your wrists would have to be the size of the gap!

Is the cuff any cheaper btw?

Report

GavelRavel · 26/08/2017 08:01

are the second hand ones for sale fake? they seem very cheap considering the starting price.

Report

MooMinCow · 26/08/2017 08:12

Elspeth - the cuff is £3,800 and slim bracelet £3,400. They seem to be going up in price regularly (like Chanel bags) I hope that's not due to the fact that Kylie Jenner wears a bazillion of them on one arm

Gavel - an independent local jeweller told me that yes there are a lot of fakes out there so cautioned against second hand. At those prices I just wouldn't risk it
